The Hargeysa International Book Fair, now in its sixth year, is one of the biggest events of its kind in East Africa. Book lovers come to watch arts performances, listen to speakers and, of course, do what we all love and browse lots of wonderful books.
What makes this book festival so special is that it takes place in Somaliland. Although the country declared its independence in 1991, it remains unrecognised internationally. So officially this celebration of the printed word took place nowhere.
